About GO564
Having grown up in Burlington, Ontario in the 1980s and '90s, I particularly enjoyed the colorful and diverse consists of GO Transit and VIA Rail Canada before most of their equipment became standardized. I took up photography as a hobby in the late 1990s and was able to ride and photograph trains in the GTA before moving out of the country a few years later. Most of my images were shot in the transition era of film-digital, and I primarily used a Nikon F50 and various Nikkor lenses, most often shooting with Kodachrome film.

![VIA 6448 and three conventional "Blue Fleet" cars idle at Niagara Falls, ON, on a damp and foggy June day in 1992. This VIA consist was substituted for the usual Amtrak equipment on train 97/98 the "Maple Leaf", due to an ongoing Amtrak strike. My dad and I rode this train from Toronto to Niagara Falls, returning to the brand-new Aldershot station, and I remember being disappointed by this substitute consist- the Amtrak equipment was stored at VIA's Toronto Maintenance Facility with a former GO GP40TC on the point, which I was really hoping to hitch a ride behind. Alas, it never happened, but looking back at the ex-CN conventional equipment now brings back other nostalgic memories...I can still smell the interiors.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/VIA6448-200x150.jpg)

![GO Transit's equipment for the Milton Line trains lays over at the former Guelph Junction on a frigid New Year's Eve, 2005. Only two of these units, 557 and 558, remain on the roster with GO Transit. The 525 is currently in service with Trinity Railway Express in Dallas, Texas as their #120. Unsure of what happened to the 537 and 555. GO operations at Guelph Junction are also history.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/GOMilton-200x150.jpg)

![Two children look on as VIA 70 arrives in Burlington West sporting an unusual consist: FP9A 6512, 4 LRC cars and an LRC locomotive providing HEP power on the rear. Seeing an F-unit hauling LRC equipment was quite rare. My guess is the LRC prime mover had a failure somewhere along the line, and the 6512 was dispatched to rescue the train. Long-gone MLW power can also be spotted on the CN freight passing by westbound off the Halton Sub.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/VIA6512-1988-200x150.jpg)

![GO 531 waits to depart Oakville for Toronto Union and Pickering, as VIA 78 departs on Track 2 with F40PH 6437. This was a late-August Sunday evening during the Canadian National Exhibition. To help maintain the schedule with large weekend crowds, GO Transit used two F59PHs on their 10-car trains. The second unit behind 531 is 549.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/GO531+VIA6437Departing-200x150.jpg)

![VIA 6404 in the short-lived Kool Aid wrap has just arrived at Oakville with a string of four LRC cars from Ottawa and Toronto. After offloading its passengers, this train deadheaded in reverse to the TMC. I can't remember the exact train number, but for a short time, VIA extended this train from Ottawa along with express train #67 from Montreal "The Metropolis" (which still used LRC locomotives at the time) form Toronto Union to Oakville.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/VIA6404KoolAid-2000-200x150.jpg)
